Balabolka is a Text-To-Speech (TTS) program that boasts many features to make life easier when reading text on a screen. It can read content from the clipboard, extract text from documents in many different formats, display the spoken text with customize font and background color, and control reading from the system tray or by global keyboard shortcuts. All computer voices installed on a system are available to Balabolka.

Balabolka allows to alter a voice’s parameters, including rate and pitch. A special substitution list to improve the quality of the voice’s articulation (for instance, to change the spelling of certain words) can be applied as well.

The spoken output for the given text can be saved into an audio file, including the synchronized text in external LRC files or in MP3 tags inside the generated audio files. This way, when an audio file is played on a computer or a modern digital audio player, the text is displayed synchronously (the same way that lyrics for songs do!).

A free web service that offers a limited subset of the features in Balabolka is also available.
