It provides a comprehensive set of features that make reading documents (including books and web pages) on iOS an extremely pleasant experience.
Voice Dream Reader supports iOS TTS voices (free, integrated in the operating system), but also provides the ability to use external high quality solutions (which require in-app purchases) such as the ones provided by Acapela, Read Speaker (previously NeoSpeech) and Ivona (bought by Amazon).
It supports a very wide variety of document formats, including text documents, PDF files, web pages, ebooks and audiobooks (both MP3 and DAISY. Documents can be acquired from a variety of sources, including cloud providers and specialized services (such as libraries for people with reading difficulties).
In contrast to what happens with a screen reader, in this app you can control document reading as if you had a multimedia player; therefore, content can be played in the background as well.
The app includes support for scanning documents and performing OCR (leveraging AI-powered technologies) to make them readable as text.
Additionally, the ability to correct pronunciation with your own pronunciation dictionary is also provided, as well as specific features to support people with reading difficulties (highlight currently spoken word, specific UI to help a reader focus on the task, visual optimizations for low-vision users, ETC.).
Finally, Voice Dream Reader supports full-text search, bookmarking, text highlighting and annotation.
